Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States at 1,949 feet and was only first seen by European Americans as late as the year 1853.

Over a period of 1.1 millions years more then 350 different lava floods occurred over what is now Oregon, adding more than 90,000 cubic miles of basalt rock to Oregons landmass. That’s enough to build a six-lane highway, one hundred feet deep from the earth to the moon.

Wooden timbers were recently discovered in a difficult to reach cave off Oregon’s coast this last summer. The remains are hypothesized to be from the Spanish ship “Santo Cristo de Burgos”, which is thought to have sunk off the coast of Oregon in 1693. The legend of this wreck was the inspiration for the movie “The Goonies”.
